9 things I learned in 2015

Reposting, as I got to remind myself of the awesome things 2015 taught me and what I believe we can get by reflecting on the positives of this year 2016

As always, Year-end is a great time to reflect on what you’ve achieved and what you’ve learned, mistakes you’ve made and goals you met and all.

Personally, this year, I became more of who I am meant to be. Not because I reached more goals, or achieved a new level of “success”. Those things happened, but they were by-products of me.

12 things to consider when writing your goals

image

It’s been a great year so far regardless of the fact that I had my down-to-earth moments.
I am convinced that I wasn’t who and what I used to be because I’ve come to see few changes and improvements and i guess so have you. We learn from our every challenges. When you look back at how God’s been grateful and graceful in the past, it gives you faith for the future.

The purpose driven life by Rick Warren.

image

This is really a lovely book. I read this book the last quarter of the year, 2015 and it’s been really impactful in my life and beyond. It’s a powerful spirirtual guide book that will help you live a purposeful life and also change your views about life. To be honest, I felt lackadaisical about reading it but I just had to try since as a group we were to give a summary of it so I just had. Nonetheless, I was thrown over when I saw I had to rread a chapter a day for 40 days—which was how the book is to be read. It’s a guide anyway and after reading, it had a great impact in my life.

Think and grow rich by Napoleon Hill

Whatever the mind of man can conceive and believe it can achieve

This is an evergreen, wonderful and magnificent book. Ever since I read it, it has revolutionized my mindset and the way I looked toward life, money and in turn changed my attitude about achieving success. I was inspired by all the chapters two of which I can’t forget are ” I will never stop because men say no” a sub of chapter 1 and the chapter on the subconscious mind because that’s the main thing we need to control.
Below are some quotes that caught my attention.

Success comes to those who become success conscious. Failure comes to those who indifferently allow themselves to become failure conscious.

Both poverty and riches are offsprings of thoughts.

Who is Napoleon Hill?
Napoleon Hill was an American author, born on the 26th of October, 1883 and died on November
8, 1970. He was an American author in the new
thought tradition of the previous century, and
an early producer of personal-success
literature. At the time of Hill’s death in
1970, his best-known work, Think and Grow
Rich (1937) had sold 20 million copies.
Hill’s works insisted fervid expectations are
essential to increasing one’s income. Most of his books were promoted as expositing principles to achieve “success”.
He was an advisor to two presidents of the
United States of America, Woodrow Wilson
and Franklin D. Roosevelt .

This book was first published in 1937. It has stood the test of time that till date, it’s considered as one of the best-selling financial books; with over 70 million copies sold. It is a 13-step guide to attaining success based on the research and interview with over 500 successful individuals like the steel tycoon, Andrew Carnegie, Thomas Alva Edison, Henry Ford, Edwin C. NEVER GIVE UP!!

wpid-img_63323793334338.jpeg

On one hand, we know that everything happens
for a reason, and there are no mistakes or coincidences. On the other hand, we learn that we can never give up, knowing that with the right tools and energy, we can reverse any decree or karma. So, which is it? Let the Light
decide, or never give up? The answer is: both.”
_Yehuda Berg

Ps. Just had to re-publish as a reminder.
I was chatting with a friend of mine over the phone just two days ago. He told me many things he had envisioned to achieve but he was still contemplating if they were achievable. He asked for my thoughts on what to do for him not to give up. I just didn’t know what to say but hope that what I did say will keep him going. I just want to share that same thoughts here too. Here it is. Reconnect yourself with your dreams. Don’t detach yourself from what you’ve envisioned. Regardless of what you are going through, make a commitment to hold on to your dreams. You’ve got to stick to your guns. i just love this phrase Same goes to us all. You are at a crossroads where you make a strong decision about your future. You are at a point where you make a good choice about what you want in life. You can decide to remain stagnant or move forward. The choice is yours. In spite of what your circumstances are, decide to reconnect with your vision. Take up things that bring you to your dreams everyday. Remind yourself of why you mustn’t give up on your dreams. Be persistently pursuing what gives you joy. Be patient with what you believe in. Give your dreams enough time to flourish in order to give you the success you truly deserve. Your position of power, success and respect is achievable. Take positive mindset with you as you journey in life. Believe all is possible!

What would you tell someone else trying to give up?

Attitude is Everything By Keith Harrell

image

Who is Keith Harrell?
Keith Douglas Harrell, popularly known as Keith Harrell, was born on the 12th of December, 1955 in Seattle. He was a basket ball star in the 1970s at Garfield high school and later became a sought-after keynote motivational speaker. He died of in October, 2010 as a result of cancer disease. He was nicknamed silk for fluid moves on court. He was one of IBMs top sales and training instructors. He has also addressed thousands of audiences for corporate clients including Microsoft, McDonalds and coca-cola.

What happens to you, doesn’t have to live within you.—Keith Harrell

What is “attitude is everything”?
This is a book written based on his life struggles as a basketball player, as an IBM staff and how he changed from where he was to a better place and position by changing his attitude.
The book is aimed at the average person and teaches how to achieve anything by first changing your attitude. I know there are different books on attitude and with different mind-blowing concepts on this scope. I believe what makes his unique is the 10 life-changing simple steps he devised in turning attitude into action. This book will provide you with all the answers you need in changing your attitude for good. There are three questions according to him; we should ask when we are faced with a negative attitude.
Is it permanent?
Is it pervasive?
Is it personal? and after answering those questions, we’ll be left with no choice but to change that attitude.

Change your thoughts, change your world (3 mins)

image

A positive attitude causes a chain reaction
of positive thoughts, events and outcomes. It is a catalyst and it sparks extraordinary
results. – Wades Boggs

The world we live in is like a sea of vibrating energy. Everywhere you go, anywhere you look energy exists. It exists outside of you
and not knowingly, it exists inside you. In case you don’t know, we as humans are all made up of energy. In our product presentation, we tell our audience that our body is made up of systems (respiratory, circulatory etc.) and systems are made of organs (lungs, heart, pancreas etc.) and organs are made up of tissues then tissues are made up of cells.
Now if you go deeper than cells, you will find out were made up of molecules, then smaller than molecules are atoms until finally we got subatomic particles, electrons, protons, neutrons and physicists right now are finding much smaller particles called
quarks etc. Now here’s the catch, smaller than the smallest of the known particles is a sea of vast vibrating energy. So we humans are literally made up of nothing but energy. Our bodies emit energy, and one of the most powerful form of radiating this energy is through our thinking. So when you think of something, your thought actually release that energy into the world around you. The good thing here, whatever your goals and plans in your life is, the Universe is conspiring to make it happen for you. As long as you think of how, it will happen. We live in a friendly Universe.
As energies attract like energies, what we think of comes to us.
According to Rhonda Byrne, in the book the secrets,

It is as if you become a big human magnet, where anything that you think and believe in
your heart has the capability of coming into existence.

That is why we always talk about  being positive, because positive thoughts attract positive results. You think of how to get something and suddenly you get to meet  someone who helps you out effortlessly.

Weed your garden, weed your mind.

image

A man’s mind may be likened to a garden, which may be intelligently cultivated or allowed to run wild; but whether cultivated or neglected, it must, and will, bring forth. If no useful seeds are put into it, then an abundance of useless weed seeds will fall therein, and will continue to produce their
kind. –James Allen

Imagine what happens if you don’t weed your garden? It will look nasty right?
That’s what happens when you don’t weed your mind. Oh don’t you know your mind is a garden. It sure is and like every garden, it needs weeding once in a while. (or do i say, “to be wed?”) please help me out.

Okay…

I took out 25 minutes today to stroll round a beautiful garden and just seeing how beautiful the flowers were nicely arranged made me love it the more. I then thought about it, for this garden to look this beautiful, it was being taken cared of. To be honest, that’s how your mind should be too. If you have a garden, spend minutes weeding it. As you do so, imagine also weeding out negative thoughts and procrastination from your mind. [If you don’t have an actual garden, simply walk around your yard you’ll probably still find plenty of weeds! But hey! If you don’t have a yard of your own, you can instead make this a mental exercise done during meditation; it will still work just as well.]
