The greatest power that a person possesses is the power to choose – J Martin Kitte.
Growing up has been an awesome journey for me. Each day as I grow, I get wiser. There are always times I feel awful and down-to-earth but as always, I try—even when I know it ain’t easy, to keep a positive attitude. I was moved by the story of a man who got diagnosed of cancer. He was a philanthropist. Who was told that he had few months to live instead of fronting or getting worried, stood up and continued his normal everyday life like nothing happened with a belief that the more he pondered over what the doctor had told him, it may keep him depressed thereby, depriving him of the opportunity to stay happy. Each passing day, he repeated to himself that everything is alright.
Months later, when the stipulated day had reached, he laid on his back expecting it may be his last. The next day, he woke up, went to his doctor for routine checkups only to find he was free from it. Call it a miracle or what, he was marveled alright. Okay he told us his miraculous story, and then I realized it was not just a miracle alone but his attitude. His attitude also played a big part in that change. The more he did what pleased him, the more merrily he was, and the more fulfilled he was in spite of the circumstance he was in, he simply chose to look at the bright side of life, even though it appeared blurred. He looked ahead, which I think, turned his weary and blurry days to light.
Yours may not be a sickness of cancer or of any sort, but what I want you to take from this is that choosing a positive attitude really pays.
How?
I realized that choosing a positive attitude is not just when something negative comes up but actually a consistent repetition of how to self-talk (to talk to yourself when you suffer a personal or emotional defeat otherwise called inner-dialogue.)
We’ve all got a choice to make. We can either choose an inner-dialogue of self-motivation and self-encouragement or one of self-defeat and self-pity. It’s a power we all have—the power to choose. Each of us, encounters hard times, hurt, heartache and physical or emotional pain. The key to it that matters, is not realizing what happens to us, but our response to it, that actually matters.
Recently, as I struggled to keep a positive attitude on a twisting and turning road to happiness, there have been many ups and downs. Though I have to admit the fact that there are numerous factors to how some people choose a positive attitude but mine have been mainly through the books I read, the people I interact with, blogs I read and to have created this blog.
Having positive attitude is a decision, choose it. No one can insult or hurt or trample on you, without your permission. One of the golden keys to happiness and great success is the way you interpret events which unfold before you. Highly successful people are master interpreters. People who have attained greatness have an ability which they have developed to interpret negative or disempowering events as positive challenges which will assist them in growing and moving even farther up the ladder of success. To be honest, there are no negative experiences only experiences which aid in your development and toughen your character so that you may soar to new heights. There are no failures, only lessons.
How to choose a positive attitude.
1. Surround yourself with happy people. The more happy they get, the more happier you’ll be. Happiness could be shared.
- Search for the positives life has to give. There are many negatives in the world right now, the more you focus on them, the more you allow them come to you. Filter them off.
- Believe that those “problems” have lessons you will learn.
- Constantly read books that are filled with positive vibes.
- Use the rubber band method to condition your mind to focus solely on the most positive elements in your life. Place a rubber band around your wrist. Each time a negative, energy sapping thought enters your mind, snap the rubber band. Through the power of conditioning, your mind will associate pain with negative thinking and you will soon possess a strongly positive mindset.
Just know this, Each brand new day, comes with new beginning, new challenges, and new victories. No matter how things go, choose to keep a positive attitude.
Did I miss anything, how do you keep a positive attitude?

Good stuff. I would add one more: Create margins in your life. If one is constantly running the treadmill of tasks, it is hard to maintain a positive attitude.
